Restoration Treatments

Numerous approaches to using thinning and prescribed fire in the restoration of southwestern ponderosa pine forests have been implemented. No one approach is workable or desirable everywhere; managers must evaluate ecological, economic, and social criteria in determining which approaches might work best in a particular area. This section of our Web site provides an overview of restoration treatments that have been implemented, discusses the results of those treatments on a variety of parameters, and outlines the inevitable tradeoffs that result when choosing one treatment over another.
